The Mug’s 2021 Predictions!

Looking back at my predictions for 2020 (which I forget to push the publish button on sadly), I seem to call things correctly: the pandemic, the last minute trade deal, Australia burning to the ground, the zombie duck attacks, etc. So, surely making predictions for 2021 is a mugs game? Correct! Therefore this is from the Mug…

The Mug’s prediction 1: COVID will get worse for the next three months, peaking mid-March before a steady but a moderate reduction in cases sees it tailing off during Q2.

The Mug’s prediction 2: The trade deal will cause disruption in Kent for two months before things settle into a routine with the lorry drivers.

The Mug’s prediction 3: Carbon emissions will continue to rise and global temperature records will continue to fall. There seems to be little political will to tackle climate change at the pace and scale needed.

The Mug’s prediction 4: The disruption from extreme weather will worsen due to 3 above. Nuff said? No, not ennuff said… this will not be good for countries in the more fragile climates and will make war and forced migration more likely.

The Mug’s prediction 5: I think the UK elections will be postponed until early September.

The Mug’s prediction 6: Damage to the wider ecosphere will increase. There will be a rush to bounce economies as covid subsided which will drive extraction and pollution up. It’s the stupid economy, right?

The Mug’s prediction 7: Mental health, particularly in younger adults, will suffer. There are already warnings of problems from covid and these come on top of a decade or so of crises that has swept through school kids.

The Mug’s prediction 8: Joe Biden will still be president at the end of 2021, Boris Johnson will have stepped down, and the Queen may or may not still be the monarch. Who knows, but you can’t have predictions without mentioning the Queen.

The Mug’s prediction 9: There may be trouble ahead, but while there’s music and moonlight and love and romance, let’s face the music and dance! We need to re-engage with the wild in and around us as the storms rage and dancing is a great way of doing this (other methods are available).

The Mug’s prediction 10: The zombie cats will continue to make their plans for attack but they wont strike until summer as they don’t like the cold.

So ten predictions, all of which will be wrong, but how wrong will they be? Find out in 12 months time…
